マーロン・グリフィス｜現代美術アーティスト”Mas” man
1976年、トリニダード・トバゴのポートオブスペイン生まれ。故郷トリニダード・トバゴのカーニバルのコスチュームデザイナー「マスマン」としてアーティストのキャリアをスタートさせ、その後、現代美術の分野へと活動を広げてきた。南アフリカ、カナダ、イギリス、中国、ベルギー、日本等、世界各地の様々なコミュニティで、市民も自由に参加できるパレード型のパフォーマンス作品を制作。 コミュニティの歴史と社会のダイナミクスを探求しながら、そこに暮らす人々の知られざる物語に光を当てる表現が、高く評価されてきた。2010年にはジョン・サイモン・グッゲンハイム記念財団フェローシップや、 コモンウェルス財団 コモンウェルス・コネクションズ・アワードに選ばれている。2009年より拠点を名古屋におき、「あいちトリエンナーレ2019」にも参加。現在も国内外で精力的に活動を行っている。
Marlon Griffith | Contemporary Artist, the “mas’ man”
Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, in 1976.He began his artistic career as a “mas man,” a carnival costume designer in his homeland of Trinidad and Tobago, later expanding his practice into the field of contemporary art. He has created parade-style performance works accessible to the public in diverse communities worldwide, including South Africa, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, Belgium, and Japan. His work, which explores community history and social dynamics while shining a light on the untold stories of the people living there, has been highly acclaimed. In 2010, he was selected for the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship and the Commonwealth Foundation’s Commonwealth Connections Award. Since 2009, he has based his activities in Nagoya and participated in the Aichi Triennale 2019. He continues to work energetically both domestically and internationally.
